Team Members are encouraged to explore their creativity by creating specialty displays for jewelry, cards, and artwork. This paid work experience aids in fostering a deeper sense of self-worth, independence, and builds the foundation for teamwork providing necessary skills and experience to obtain community employment.

Job Development and Job Coaching Programming

United Cerebral Palsy of Nevada provides on the-job-support and development for those currently looking for community employment. Participants in job development are offered opportunities to search, apply, and interview for jobs with someone who understands their needs and their goals. Advocacy is at the forefront of job development, by working with community partners; UCPNV is able to help participants obtain employment in an inclusive work environment suited to their abilities.

Further job coaching is available to help participants make the transition to work and to support them until they are confident in all assigned job tasks. Our goal is to support participants in every aspect of their community employment to create a lasting job placement they are happy with.

Day Programming

United Cerebral Palsy of Nevada Team Members participate in activities that combine vocational training and life enrichment skills. Participants in our Day Habilitation programs learn valuable life skills such as money management, career exploration, social skills, and literacy. Team Members in our day habilitation also have the opportunity to participate in community based recreational and social opportunities.

These team members volunteer at the humane society, visit the planetarium, attend music class, and learn how to use assistive technology. By partnering with the community, we are able to provide experiences that shape each individual’s goals.

Support our Mission

Our new Eagle Eyes program is getting a lot of use by certain team members that have been unable to use a computer mouse due to their disability.

They are learning to manipulate the mouse with their eyes to play games which helps assess their strengths and weaknesses and learn the perimeters of the program. It is a process with the ultimate goal of people being able to communicate with the device.

They are very excited about using the program but are only able to do it for a short time, 30 to 40 minutes, as it makes their eyes very tired. The smiles that are on their faces while using the program to do something we all take for granted is very uplifting.

Mission Moments

Living Our Why, Building Connections.

It is so fortunate that we can talk about one of our clients who has found a job. Larry has been with UCP for years! He continued to show interest in finding a job out in the community. Larry has some barriers to competitive employment. However, he was determined to find something. He applied and interviewed independently. When Larry announced that he was giving his two weeks’ notice, we approached him to see if he wanted job coaching. He agreed that it would be a good idea to help him and ensure job retention.

We have been working with Robyn since December 2021. Robyn was formerly employed at a pizza establishment. We worked with her on her resume and helping her enhance her interview skills. Robyn worked with our job coach to be prepared for calls she might receive after filling out job applications. Robyn was offered four jobs before she found the best fit for her at the movie theatre. Robyn has now been employed for a month! We are excited to help her maintain her competitive and integrated employment. Bonus, it is close to where she lives, and she loves movies!

Logan has been with UCP since 2019, and he started in the day program at Bishop working on his ability to express himself appropriately. Throughout his time at UCP, he had a lot of challenging behaviors and incidents of elopement. UCP and his support team figured out various ways to work on his challenging behaviors and to help him grow. He was in the prevocational program at Bishop so he can stay busy with learning various prevocational skills. When Logan started the prevocational program, his support team agreed to it but was concerned because of his attention span. UCP and team also came up with a plan to address his elopement. Logan started the prevocational program in May and has made a tremendous improvement with not only work but also has not eloped ever since. Logan continues to reach new milestones. He has taken excellent initiative to demonstrate his preferences to ensure that he experiences meaning and value from each day served at UCP.
